T&W Formal Consultation of Newport Neighbourhood Development Plan (Regulation 16 Consultation)

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to let you know that Newport Town Council has prepared a Neighbourhood Plan (NP) for Newport neighbourhood area in accordance with Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012.

Newport Town Council has submitted their NP to Telford & Wrekin Council (“the Council”) for publication and formal consultation before it is independently examined. The Newport NDP is accompanied by supporting documents including a Basic Conditions Statement and a Consultation Statement.

The Newport Neighbourhood Development Plan establishes a long term view for the Newport area and help deliver the local community’s aspirations and needs for the plan period 2017 – 2031. It sets out a number of key objectives and planning policies which the Newport Town Council wishes to be used to help determine planning applications in Newport area. The Newport NDP is being referred to an independent person for independent examination.

As required by Regulation 16 of the Neighbourhood Planning regulations 2012, the Council is inviting representations on the submission version of the Newport NDP. The consultation will run for a period of 6 weeks, starting from 5 December 2017 until 5pm on 23 January 2018.

A copy of the submitted Newport Neighbourhood Development Plan and supporting documentation can be viewed on the Council website at: www.telford.gov.uk/newportndp. Paper copies can be inspected at:

You should note that your comments are not confidential, they will be publicly available and published on the Council’s website.

Following the consultation, the Council will collate and submit all the responses received to the appointed Examiner, along with the submitted documents so that the Newport NDP can be examined.

Following the examination, the appointed Examiner will then prepare a Report and recommend if the NDP can be referred to a public referendum. The Council must then consider the Examiner’s report and make a decision on whether to refer the NDP to public referendum or refuse the NDP. If the plan is recommended for public referendum, the Council will arrange a referendum. If more than 50% of the votes at the referendum are in favour of the NDP it will be made and then form part of Telford & Wrekin Councils development plan in respect of the administrative area of the Parish of Newport.
