Statement from Save Newport Campaign

Village Green – Council’s Licensing Committee

Whilst we still have not heard the decision of the Inspector following the Inquiry in October, in anticipation the Council have now pencilled it in for their consideration at the meeting of their Licensing Committee on the 23rd January at 6.00pm, venue to be announced. It will be good if as many people as possible were able to attend, as although the normal practice is for Councils to accept the Inspector’s decision, in Telford & Wrekin’s case this cannot be taken as a given, particularly as the ruling Labour group have the majority vote on this Committee. As regards our claim against the Council for judicial review (submitted on 20/12) regarding their decision to appropriate the land for planning purposes, we have had no further communication from either the Council or the High Court. As you are aware, we have asked for stay on proceedings pending the Inspector’s decision, but the Council have not agreed to this, so we are in the hands of the court. I will keep you posted on any developments.

PS The Station Rd call-in Inquiry has now been confirmed as starting on Tuesday 29th January at the Park Inn in Telford, and will last up to 12 days. More details will follow by email and in the press. Again a good turn out by Save Newport Campaigners will be very important.
