Make Your Views Known

The Save Newport Campaign has tried hard to ensure residents and businesses are aware of development proposals affecting our town and our High Street so that they can make their views known.


To help keep you informed here is a summary of planning applications still to be decided by the borough Council along with revised dates up to which any interested party may write or email to make their views known about the application(s):-


(1) TWC/2011/0632 – application by Indigo for a food store (supermarket) on the Classic Furniture site. Consideration by the Plans Board deferred to enable a further retail study to be carried out. Consultation period extended to 2/11/2011, although late ‘representations’ may still be made;


(2) TWC/2011/0821 – an outline application for ~285 houses on land at Wellington Road (Grove Farm). Consultation period extended to 21/11/2011;


(3) TWC/2011/0827 – an outline application for ~215 dwellings on land to north of Audley Avenue (to the side and rear of the cemetery, on the former Audco football fields). Consultation period extended to 23/11/2011;


(4)) TWC/2011/0871 – an outline application for a ‘Superstore’, petrol filling station, ~350 dwellings plus circa 80 extra care, 4.5 ha. of employment land, related infrastructure, public open space and landscaping. Consultation period extended to 23/11/2011;


(5) TWC/2011/0916 – a full application for a ‘Superstore’, petrol filling station etc. (see 0871 above) on land to the west of Station Road. Consultation period extended to 21/11/2011;


(6) TWC/2011/0853 – renewal of an application for erection of buildings for employment use and car auction at Parklands House, Audley Avenue. Consultation period extended to 8/11/2011, although late ‘representations’ may still be made;


(7) TWC/2011/0850 – an application linked to 0632 (see above) for the creation of wildlife / allotments with inert waste/landfill. Consultation period extended to 15/11/2011;

In addition, the Save Newport Campaign continues to press for reassurances that previous decisions made by T&WC Plans Board will be reviewed to ensure that all approved developments do not cause problems for existing residents and businesses.


These sites include proposals to build 61 houses on the former Audco Works site known as Newport Business Park on Audley Road, the ‘Continuing Care village off Stafford Road, and

proposal to build 30 houses on land off Broomfield Road.
