Newport Town Council is receiving e-mails, prompted by a facebook posting, relating to a proposed planning application.

All e-mail correspondence on the matter is recieving the following reply:

You have received this response as your e-mail appears to have been prompted by a posting on the social networking site ‘facebook’.

The Town Council is not a registered user of face book and is unable to view comments relating to it first hand.

From our understanding the deputy Town Clerk’s e-mail address has been posted on a face book page which is discussing a proposed planning application in or near Newport.

You will wish to be aware that the Town Council is a consultee on all planning applications in Newport and can express a view to the Planning Department at Telford & Wrekin Council.  Telford & Wrekin Council makes the decision based upon planning law and comments received by consultees.

You should be aware that the Town Council is only able to express a view on planning applications that have been submitted formally to Telford & Wrekin Council.

If a developer has had a public meeting to gauge views then it is appropriate to raise your concerns directly to the developer.  They may change their plans based upon your comments.

When a planning application is received by the Town Council (from Telford & Wrekin Council) the merits of an application will be considered by the Planning Committee.  These comments will then form the Town Council’s corporate views

The general public have the right to comment on planning applications submitted however these should be directed to the local planning authority (Telford & Wrekin Council), Tel 01952 380380 or via the website
