In January, Telford & Wrekin Council announced that it would have to make cuts of £30 million from its budget over the next two years. Proposed changes to the library service, saving £548,220 were part of the budget consultation. Proposals included the Council stopping running six of the nine libraries and stopping the mobile library service.

Over the last few months we have been talking to Town and Parish Councils and other organisations about any help they could give us to keep the libraries open. These discussions were positive and we are pleased to say that as a result the six libraries we were proposing to be closed will now stay open, although there will be changes to management arrangements and opening hours. Unfortunately no organisation came forward to offer to run the mobile library service so, as from April 1st 2017, it will cease.

The Council is now asking for people’s views again. We want to make sure that as many people as possible continue to use and enjoy the library service and we want to hear what people think about the changes to library services.
We would like to ask you to take part in the consultation by completing the library services consultation here.

The closing date for the consultation is Sunday 24 July.

As part of the consultation, there are also a series of consultation road shows in each of the libraries where senior councillors and staff will be available to talk to local people and answer questions you may have. The dates and times of these road shows are on but if you are unable to attend please email Jo Heaton, Library Service Development Manager
