Letter to Secretary of State

The Save Newport Campaign has issued a further letter to Secretary of State Eric Pickles, following on from the initial letter of 7th October 2011,in which we have requested that under the call-in procedures for certain types of planning application,he gives consideration to the ‘cumulative impact’ of the total number of the applications at present submitted for Newport.

We also have a quote in the letter ,from our MP,Mr. Mark Pritchard, to the effect that he considers the applications for both housing and retail to be ‘premature’ and that this together with the ‘cumulative impact’ takes the applications beyond what is in the T&W Core Strategy. He is of the opinion that the residents of Newport and the rural hinterland should be allowed a voice in deciding what is needed for Newport and where it should be built.
