INFORMATION RE PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO PROPOSED STATION ROAD SAINSBURY’S SUPERSTORE

The call-in Inquiry to consider the application for the proposed Sainsbury’s superstore on land off Station Road, begins at 10 am on Tuesday 29th January 2013. As per our previous request, anyone who wishes to attend is asked to be at the Park Inn, Telford by 9.45 am. We have a photocall with Shropshire Star arranged for 9.45 am.

Be aware that on the first morning of any Inquiry the Inspector prefers as little distraction as possible while the parties introduce themselves and general practical matters are discussed.

The Inspector has asked that any organisations or individuals who may want to address the Inquiry are in attendance on the first morning. However, for those who cannot be present on the first morning, the Inspector has indicated that he expects that time may become available towards the end of the Inquiry for individuals to speak. So that we/the Inspector can get a feel for possible numbers, if anyone does want to speak, could they please send an email asap  to savenewport@gmail.com giving brief details as to identity, whether they will be speaking on behalf of a local organisation or as an individual and what topic(s) they will cover.

The Inspector has set aside two hours on the evening of 12th February 2013, for ‘interested parties’ to address the Inquiry and the Inspector has already been notified of various entities including Newport Town Council,Newport Regeneration Partnership, Newport Chamber of Commerce, Newport Town Team Manager, Newport South Ward Councillor, Chetwynd Aston Parish Council, Church Aston Parish Council, Newport History Society and a local ‘flora and fauna’ expert.

SNC hope to post an update on the SNC website,  Facebook page and Twitter on the major issues arising each day plus the date(s) and time(s) when the consultant and/or the QC representing SNC are due to be in action – we would hope/ask everyone for good attendance on these days please.

If anyone can spare a day or half-day to sit in the Inquiry and takes notes for the blog, please email savenewport@gmail.com . The Inquiry is due to last three weeks so we need as many volunteers as possible please.

Details of FREE transport for the evening of  12th February 2013, will be supplied in due course as well as a photcall before everyone leaves Newport on the 12th February 2013, probably around 6pm.

Finally, we  must  stress that this an Inquiry which the public are allowed to address  only at the times allotted by the Inspector. Other than at these times the Inspector will not welcome interruptions by comments being shouted or applause etc. Ultimately, the Inspector has the power to clear the public areas if these conventions are not observed.

After all the hard work of many people in Newport,Church  Aston and the surrounding rural areas to get this Inquiry, please maintain the consistent, fair and dignified behaviour from all our previous public meetings.

FINALLY – THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT AND HARD WORK. LET US HOPE WE ARE SUCCESSFUL IN OUR BATTLE TO PROTECT OUR TOWN & HELP IT GROW SUSTAINABLY
