IMPORTANT VILLAGE GREEN PUBLIC INQUIRY STARTS MONDAY 22 OCTOBER

RESIDENTS URGED TO ATTEND!

The rescheduled Public Inquiry into the application by Newport resident John Rudd for Village Green status to be established on Station Road Fields will now start on Monday 22nd October, at the Royal Victoria Hotel, St Mary Street, Newport, Shropshire. If successful the Village Green status will change the course of the planning application for a huge Sainsbury’s and its associated housing.

Timings

The Inquiry will run from 10.00am- to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 4.30pm on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd, with evening sessions 6-8pm for those called as witnesses, or members of the public interested in attending, who work and are unable to attend during the day, on both days. The Inquiry is scheduled to run for a maximum of 6 days due to the number of local people being called as witnesses to give evidence in support of the application. Sessions on Wednesday (24th) and Thursday (25th) will run from 10.00am-1.00pm and 2.00-5.00pm, and should the Inquiry run into Friday (26th) and Monday (29th), the Inquiry will move to Civic Offices Telford and Meeting Point House, Telford respectively.

Save Newport Campaign urges local people to attend the Inquiry to demonstrate their support for the Village Green application and support members of the local community who have put themselves forward as witnesses as regards their use of the Station Road site for informal recreational activities over the past 20 years. Members of the public attending will be free to come and go throughout the Inquiry sessions.

Telford & Wrekin Council own the land and oppose the application. They are still committed to developing the site for a huge Sainsbury’s superstore, despite another proposal by landowner David Tringham for a smaller superstore on brownfield land on Audley Avenue now given planning approval by an independent Planning Inspector. Telford & Wrekin Council are now challenging this independent approval in the High Court at further expense to the taxpayer.

PLEASE ATTEND THE INQUIRY AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT
