Day 6 of the Inquiry

Today saw the cross examination of St Modwen’s key witness (planning consultant) and an exchange of views as to the degree of alignment between the various key national, regional and local planning policy documents and counter arguments re brownfield v greenfield, the issues the Inspector is really here to sort out and to make some judgement on, and why this Inquiry is a test case for other similar applications across the country. The issue of open space also featured large, with St Modwen’s looking to denigrate the SR site in terms of its value as an informal recreational space (for walking, dog walking etc mainly on the informal footpaths), and using the VG Inspector’s report as ammunition. There was also some discussion regarding the legal process for getting the line of the Hutchison Way diverted, and whether, given there was likley to be local opposition, it would require a Public Inquiry, and if so how long this might take (sometime between November 2013 – February 2014).

Our QC and planning consultant will be here tomorrow to hopefully cross examine the Council’s planning witness, following the cross examination of the Council’s highways and retail witnesses in the morning.

DONT FORGET THAT FRIDAY AFTERNOON (2.00-4.00pm) IS AN ADDITIONAL SESSION FOR INTERESTED PARTIES AND WE ALREADY HAVE 10 PEOPLE WHO HAVE SAID THEY WISH TO SPEAK ON A RANGE OF TOPICS. THEY COULD DO WITH YOUR SUPPORT.
