Anger over 3 housing applications for Newport

T&W Borough Councillor Adrian Meredith has expressed his anger about the attitude taken by T&W as regards the 3 housing applications for Newport to be heard at the T&W Plans Committee meeting to be held on Wednesday 24 June 2015.

On the following night, a paper on the draft Local Plan which will run from 2016 to 2031, is to be considered by the T&W Cabinet. The paper states that the heart of the Local Plan will be to protect green spaces in the Borough. In addition, a huge cut of 39% is proposed to the total number of houses required to be built over the 2016 to 2031 period.

T&W have previously acknowledged that Newport has an under provision of green spaces even before recent approvals of housing developments on greenfield land off Wellington Road (285 houses), land opposite Mere Park (111 houses) and on land off Edgmond Road (85 houses).

Cllr. Meredith said ‘we now know why the Council wanted to rush through the housing applications on Wednesday night as they hoped the proposals in the Cabinet paper would not become widely known in advance of the Plans Committee meeting’.

The Plans Committee meeting starts at 6 pm on Wednesday 24 June 2015, at TCAT TN1 2 NP. Ample car parking is available on the TCAT site.
Please come and show your support for the various residents and Borough Councillor who will be speaking against the applications on Wednesday evening
